MÖRK BORG BARE BONES EDITION + ROTBLACK SLUDGE
A downloadable game
In short: This is the full MÖRK BORG book—without most of the art and with a minimalist graphic design—for free download. The introductory adventure Rotblack Sludge is included as well, unchanged from the original version.
One day all will blacken and burn. Just as the Two-Headed Basilisks have predicted.
The world is dying, time is short. How will you face these last days? Robbing graves for soil-stained wealth, or facing down the apocalypse, hoping it can be fought?
MÖRK BORG is a doom metal album of a game. A spiked flail to the face. Rules light, heavy everything else. This is the BARE BONES EDITION; free, (almost) artless and the typography and graphic design turned down from 11 all the way to a sensible 4-5. When we made the original book we sacrificed a lot of things on the experimental altar of aesthetics and theme. This edition removes all that; strips the flesh off of this monster and leaves behind a bare skeleton. Still animated, armed and anxious to reenact the satanic panic, but bare and without all the horns and ornaments.

This is FREE to download. You can choose to pay for it but please don't. It's meant to be free.
For the real deal, visit morkborg.com or your unfriendly local game store and ask for that yellow book with the blood-splattered demonic skeleton warrior. Say hi from us.
What is MÖRK BORG?
MÖRK BORG is a pitch-black apocalyptic fantasy RPG about lost souls and fools seeking redemption, forgiveness or the last remaining riches in a bleak and decaying world. Who are you? The tomb-robber with silver glittering between cracked fingernails? The mystic who would bend the world’s heart away from its inevitable end? The world is dying. And you with it.
Confront power-draining necromancers, skulking skeletal warriors and backstabbing wickheads. Wander the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead, the catacombs beneath the Bergen Chrypt or the bedeviled Sarkash forest. But leave hope behind - the world’s cruel fate is sealed, and all your vain heroic efforts are destined to end in death and dismay. Or are they?
MÖRK BORG is a complete game that can be played as is or be picked apart for use in your own homebrew. Within the book you’ll find:
- A brief look at this dying world. From The Two-Headed Basilisks’ gothic cathedral in Galgenbeck and Blood-countess Anthelia’s limestone palace, to the fields of death in Graven-Tosk and the barren wastes of Kergüs.
- The Calendar of Nechrubel, that decides the speed of the world’s demise.
- 20 occult Powers that let you bend reality, and just as many magical catastrophes for when you disastrously fail.
- Optional rules which bring more depth to the game. Omens let you turn bad luck into a slightly better one. Classes with unique traits and quirks, and tables that will bring life into your character.
- 12 creatures to be murdered by.
- Game master tools such as tables for corpse plundering, occult treasure, adventure sparks, dungeon generating and other devilry.
- The introductory dungeon crawl scenario Rotblack Sludge, where you investigate a forgotten part of the Shadow King’s enormous ruin palace. Cannibal warlocks, poison peddlers from beyond the void and hungry gutworms await

do cy_borg please! :) cheers.
Will there be bare bones edition equivalent for CY_BORG?
Is there a Swedish version of this available somewhere?
This is just what I was looking for!... I have owned Mork Borg for a long time. But I have been unable to read it until now, because its format is too visually busy for me to process. Whenever I try to read anything published for Mork Borg in that format, it just triggers severe migraines with transient aphasia for me. But now thanks to this barebones edition, I can finally read Mork Borg's rules. Thank you so much for this.
I appreciate this so much! Thank you.
possible to get this for cy_borg morkborg? i really want to enjoy the game but the normal layout print gives me add/adhd feelings lol..
Excelent!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Hello, I'm interested in translating the material into my language, do you authorize me to do the same?
You can do it for personal use but our third party license doesn’t include the public release of translations. It becomes messy with our publishing deal with free league etc.
I will publish an adventure that uses the Mörk Borg system, we will publish between September/October.
Problem that the game is in an inaccessible language. Is there any possibility that we can negotiate this Free version to be made available to the community for free?
você é de onde? Eu gostaria muito de ter o MORK BORG em português.
I want THIS in print.
That’s a good idea! We’ll look into the possibility of doing that
This is a good trend. Eclipse Phase and Fate Core are both available in condensed, mainly content-only formats at lower prices. It's great for gamer with less money, sure -- but I think the extra copies people will *legitimately* purchase for their players instead of sharing the communal Core Copy may make up at least some of it.
Absolute thankies

Just bought the yellow book a month ago, and I have no idea why people have problems reading it.
It's simply amazing, and the best RPG purchase for me in a long time.
Love this game so much.
Some of us have color sensitivities, especially reading in PDF format. It's likely less egregious in person in paper form, but from a screen it's borderline painful to perceive.
LOL!
Finally and thanks! Got so much headache from reading the original
Awesom! Now i whant it Hard…Like in Hardcover! And in dnd size so my old eyes can see and read it! please kickstarter bare bone edition of MB!
Thank you so much for making this available to us, Johan!
I am of course delighted to have this free, easy to read version of MorkBorg...but it seems strange to have a format that is designed to be easy to read, and then have a bunch of random tables in the front pages, seemingly in lieu of a table of contents. Is this an intentional design choice I am not understanding, or a last minute editing/layout whoopsie?
That's how it is in the real book. Inside covers are random tables, easy to find.
A lot of OSR games have a habit of putting most of their random tables in the first and/or last pages. It might make things less intuitive on your first read, but in the long run it's a blessing because whenever you need to quickly find a table you can just find it right there.
OK, thanks for this contextual information! Makes a lot more sense.
I'm so grateful for this, with my visual processing disorders the original game is impossibly for me to read/play. This is so much more accessible!
Amazing amazing amazing! Feels like Christmas in July.
